2nd poster prize at RSS

In September 2025 I attended the Royal Statistical Society conference in Edinburgh. It was a good chance to connect with colleagues, catch up with friends, make new ones, and even win a prize!

What I particularly enjoyed about this conference was the fact that it covered everything from theory to applications and academia to industry. A few sessions that stood out for me were:

  • Jane Hutton on statisticians as expert witnesses, sharing stories that showed how statistical evidence can genuinely influence real-world decisions.
  • Rebecca Duke, Leo Benedictus, and Daniel Clarkson in the Stats for Good session, with reflections ranging from working with children to data journalism to supporting food banks, all through the power of statistics.
  • David McCandless (Author of Information is Beautiful), who gave a masterclass in turning data into compelling visual stories.

I also presented my poster on “Likelihood-free inference for better priors in clinical trials”, based on my work at Danu Insights. I am delighted that, out of 120 posters, mine was awarded second prize in the poster competition. What a great way to round off the conference!
